3 Steps to Choose Inverter
When your power supplies blows off then it is the back-up power supplied by inverter which runs your equipments.
In order that your inverter function properly; the selection of right kind of inverter is very important before installing it at your premise.
Here are the three steps that will help you in installing proper inverter at your premise:
STEP 1. Choose only "Pure Sine Wave" Inverter instead of "Modified Sine Wave" or "Square Wave" Inverters. This will ensure that your expensive and sensitive electrical & electronic equipments like fans, computers, refrigerators,TV etc. function properly without any noise or overheating.
I personally feel "High Frequency Pure Sine Wave Inverters" are better than "Low Frequency/Transformer Isolated Inverters" as they are cheap and less bulkier.
STEP 2. In inverters, always select "Tubular/Marine/Deep Cycle" batteries instead of "Automotive" batteries. "Tubular/Marine/Deep Cycle" are designed for several hundred charging/discharging cycles. Thus, ensuring their better life as compared to "Automotive" batteries.
STEP 3. Last but not the least, the proper sizing of the inverter is very important. It ensures long, good performance of inveter and also avoids overloading.
The size of inverter (i.e. measured in "Kilo Volt Ampere i.e. KVA) depends upon "Continuous Load" and "Startup Load".
The "Startup Load" is always greater than "Continuous Load"."Startup Load" should always be taken into consideration while sizing the inverter although it exists for very short period when we switch on the equipments.
To calculate the size of inverter, the first step is to add the power ratings (measured in "Kilowatt i.e. KW" of all the equipments you wish to run on inverter. Let us say; the sum of power rating of all equipments is "X" KW.
Size of Inverter = "X" * 2 KVA
(To be installed at home or office for running
fans, lights and electronic equipments etc.)
For running large number of appliances having motors i.e. pumps, airconditioners, refrigerators etc. replace the factor "2" with "3".
As a thumb rule, inverter of the size 800 VA (.8KVA) is enough for running 02 tubelights (40 watt each), 02 celing fans(80 watt each)and 01 colour TV of size 21" .
Some of the leading manufacturers of the inverters are Su-max, Lumax, Microtek, APC etc.
